"A New Anointing For A New Day"
Ever since I first heard David's contributions to the 'Worship in The Spirit' series and to Hosanna's "Our Heart" acoustic compilation, I have been
greatly attracted to his music. The passion of his distinctive voice always seems to stand out. The cover pic of "A New Anointing" portrays David in essential Baroni poise - lost in abandoned worship - precisely the
abiding mood of this offering. Recorded at The International Worship Institute in Dallas, Texas, and presented in it's live and raw form with little studio editing, the recording consists of ten new songs, all composed by David or
co-written with close colleague Lamar Boschman. Proceedings kick off with some panache in the highly infectious anthemic sounds of 'The Power of our God Come Now', which certainly induces audience participation! This is
followed by several more relatively upbeat songs of celebration, including the Caribbean lilt of 'Sing to the Lord all the Earth', each tune given the special infusion of Tyrone William's cool, jazzy sax. Great as these
songs are, it's in those more intimate expressions of worship that I believe this artist truly excels. David's tender vocals, soaked in emotion, ably captures the poignancy of pieces such as the prophetic 'Come to Me', 'Faithful
God' (not the Kent Henry composition of the same title), and the closing 'Back Where I've Always Been'. Some of the most sensitive moments are found at the close of songs, as Mr. Baroni continues for a short time in spontaneous
worship. Just beautiful. This is a competent recording, one in which we are told worshippers were 'challenged and changed, refreshed and released, enthused and infused with a new passion for the Person and purposes of
God'. Experience the atmosphere of "A New Anointing" and you will be too.
