"Say The Word"
Stuart Townend has for numerous years been the largely unpublicized voice behind the hugely popular UK Stoneleigh Live worship recordings. Here is, surprisingly, his
debut studio project, showcasing his extraordinary talents as a writer of modern worship-hymns. Ten of the twelve songs included here were composed by Stuart over the past decade, and he also co-produced the album. Personal
thoughts relating to each song are provided in the sleeve-notes, which, elsewhere, describes his music as 'poetic yet congregational, profound yet full of passion'. Several of these songs are already well-established in the
worship-material of many churches, including 'How Deep The Father's Love' and 'My First Love'. But perhaps the most poignant song of all is the longing plea expressed in 'We Have Sung Our Songs' ('How Long'), where the singer (in
this case guest appearance of fellow singer/songwriter Mal Pope), cries out to God concerning the injustices in the world, the turning away from godly standards, and the desire for revival. Truly a passionate and highly-relevant
modern psalm. With beautiful and sensitive vocals, backed by strong musicianship and tight production, the overall result of 'Say The Word' is one of sonic excellence.
