Though not Vineyard releases, these albums take on a format typical of the Touching the Father's Heart series, where the set is divided
into two, each showcasing separate worship musicians. In both cases these are Jeff Searles from VCF, Fort Worth, USA, and Scott Ezzy from DaySpring Christian Fellowship, Castle Hill, Australia. Recorded in 1998,
"Higher and Higher" is the more upbeat of the two recordings, Jeff setting the ball rolling with a couple of his own compositions, including the powerful opener 'Remember'. This is followed by Ryan Delmore's 'Set me
free', Ryan subsequently performing it himself on the edgy "Burn Service" release. Jeff also includes a version of Darrell Evan's wonderful anthem 'My God Reigns'. Scott's set comprises mainly self-penned material,
though personally I don't find it as appealing as Jeff's section. 'All of creation' though, is a delightfully worshipful track co-written by Scott Brenner, and the title cut is a 10-minute cry of the heart, sensitively effected by
Mr. Ezzy. Two punchy spontaneous pieces of 'free worship' are also presented, the latter rather lacking in melody, but both expressing the musical strength of the backing band on percussion and lead guitar. "Nothing
Else Matters" has Jeff Searles again kicking off, with a collection of songs each of which are written by a different composer (none by himself). Apart from the opening track which has an attractive flow, the songs on this
recording are deliberately low-key, gentle and deeply worshipful. Brian Doerksen's 'Stay' is beautifully represented here, other songs coming from the pens of Rita Springer, Scott Underwood and John Barnett. But it's Scott Ezzy's
set on this album that steals the show, with a succession of gorgeously intimate worship material. This commences with the title track, flows through 'Everything for You', another delicate Brenner/Ezzy cut, and onto Ryan Delmore's
compelling 'Open our eyes' which I've been playing over and over again. Beautiful! His set draws to a close with another strong self-written piece, 'God You are my God'. Two interesting albums, many songs carrying a
Vineyard style sound, but both with their own individuality too. Due to it's depth of intimacy, my favourite is definitely the gentler-paced "Nothing Else Matters" (ignore it's terribly bland cover design though!).
