"From The Earth Beneath Me..."

  'If you listen with your heart...you can hear the heartbeat of God...and you too, can enter the stable where the King visits'. The 'stable' spoken of here is 'The Warehouse', Atlanta, Georgia, location of this 'live' recording, made in association with Blood 'n Fire Ministries, which has a specific call to the inner city poor.
  The album incapsulates a passionate expression of worship, proficiently led by Danny Steyne, and featuring a formidable array of musicians, including Leonard Jones, Matthew Donnovan and Suzy Wills from MorningStar Church, North Carolina, as well as a total of five percussionists! Many other instruments are also employed, such as a midi-whistle (effectively used on track two), an Algerian Wop, and a Swedish Water Tuba!
  Dedication emanates from every track on this benevolent 74 minute offering. This is certainly evident on those upbeat numbers, but equally notable on the slower, sometimes restrained songs (which actually comprise the main part of this volume). 'Passion Of My Heart' is a powerful song in point, as is the tender 'Worthy The Lamb', or the almost agonisingly
sensitive 'Fire In Your Eyes'. Profoundly beautiful.
  A bonus 'Bootleg Xtra Cut' specially recorded at MorningStar Ministries, Charlotte, brings to a close this fine piece of professional output, and concludes a genuinely worshipful experience.

If your church worship team is looking for some really great new songs, they can be found on this CD. Seven of the twelve tracks are originals, six by Josh Fox and one from Dan Ryan. The songs that stood out for us were “Revelation” (similar in style to upbeat songs written by Brian Doerksen), “Run to You”, Lord’s Prayer”, “I Think of You”, and “Seventy Three”.

A very “lively” session of worship with 9 tracks. Many of the songs continue on in the spirit with a spontaneous part. Four songs are originals from Bill Themelaras, two were written by Georgian Banov, two are spontaneous songs, and one, “Praise the Lord”, is from Kevin Prosch.
This CD has some great stuff on it, like track 2 “I will give him glory”, “Enter In” - a spontaneous song from Georgian Banov, and the songs written by Mr. Themelaras, especially the title track. Once again, as was the case with this group’s previous CD shown below, GoldUSA gives their new CD high praise - their best output yet.

The worship team at this church known as Judah is led by Bill Themelaras. This CD has a great sound to it. There are only a few original songs on this recording, but all songs are done well. The CD starts with a great upbeat song by Darrell Evans and finishes with the Matt Redman song Undignified. The whole church “gets wild and loose” on the final track. This church knows how to get free in worship.

"A People Possessed"

  Judah is an energetic and enterprising worship outfit from the Praise Family Worship Center, Glen Dale, WV. Led by Bill Themelaras who wrote four of the new songs here recorded, the band is joined on this venture by Georgian Banov, who's exalting 14 minute 'I will give Him glory' is a truly irresistible celebration of Kingdom life. Bill gives the essence of what the
team are about on the bold, war-like title-track:
  'Hear the sound of the marching feet..../See those who dig down /Go forward and don't look back /Pure focus is their only goal...../There'll be a people possessed by God /Who'll meet the world at a point of convergence'

  A deeper intimacy comes with the lovely 'Stay here with you' and 'Journey' (which suddenly changes tempo as it reaches it's climax). While spontaneous extensions seem to be a normal part of this church's worship, Georgian's
invitation to 'Enter in' is spontaneous in it's entirety while Bill's 'Praise the Lord' is a wonderfully atmospheric combination of the spontaneous along with a simple Kevin Prosch hook-line (which originally appeared on MorningStar's "Glory" venture). Indeed, Kevin introduced a whole new way of using music in worship and has been of huge influence to hundreds of musicians, that influence appearing again in Judah's 'Everybody drink', using the chorus from Prosch's 'Lord of the Dance'.
  Kelly Unterzuber makes exciting use of lead guitar, while Banov's artful violin gives a sometimes Messianic, othertimes Country feel. Additional 'tools' employed include keyboards, digeridoo and all sorts of percussion, including conch shell and wood bells!
  Whilst we do find more original material here than on the previous "River Ablaze", I don't think ALL tracks work well ('Pour out Your Spirit', for example is rather tedious and repetitive). Nonetheless, "A People Possessed" is an adventurous album independently created, and clearly comes from a group that likes it's worship 'to border the Throne Zone'.

"A Long Obedience"

  I must say, I was more than a little surprised by the standard of music presented on this debut offering from the relatively unknown Irving Bible Church, Texas. It's high-class material all the way! The worship flows along in a warm, steady stream - never boring, nor ever 'loud' or pretentious. Indeed, it's not unlike the delightful output that stems from
Breakaway Ministries (also based in Texas, strangely enough).
  Russ Ware is not only the album's main song-writer and co-producer, he also appears to be the (unaccredited!) lead vocalist on most tracks - his gentle but competent vocals really impressing this listener. His songs are deeply infectious and well suited to congregational use - so good that I can see a high demand on them by church groups wherever they're discovered! His 'King of King's' is a tender duet and stands out because of it's stripped-down acoustic beauty - gorgeous stuff!
  A full 90-strong IBC choir (each name being credited) come together for the soulful 'You are an awesome God' and the funky 'Lead me to the Rock' - both with apt brass accompaniment - producing gospel music that is truly accessible. Elsewhere, music to two classic hymns is given the total re-works - creating wonderfully fresh re-arrangements without altering original lyrics or mood. Things take an unexpected turn with a strong rendition of David Ruis' edgy 'We will dance' towards the close, and again on the intriguing hidden track which is, well....not for me to disclose!
  Impressive vocals, tight (and full) instrumentation, good production - and above all, a genuine sense of self-abandoning worship. IBC's "A Long Obedience" gets full marks from me!
