"Fresh Anointing"
John Finnochio was the youngest of eight children, growing up in his home town of Hamilton, Ontario. Following the divorce of his parents, John turned to a life of
drink, drugs and street crime in his teenage years. However, mercifully, in 1974, through a 'chance' re-union with an old school friend, he gave his life to the Lord. He married Jan in 1979 and seven years later was ordained as a
pastor at his home church. John has since established 'Canada Arise', a worship conference which has spread to other cities in the country. Although focused on his home nation, he also spends considerable time traveling abroad,
ministering in seminars and concerts, and placing an emphasis on the biblical foundations for worship. Known as a modern Psalmist, John here shares a collection of his own recent compositions. His fine strong voice shines
predominantly through since this is a semi-acoustic recording, with generally no more than guitar and percussion as backing instruments. Some songs have a rootsy pop feel, such as 'Holding in faith', and the praise-tones of
'Exalted be the One'. Others contain more intimate expressions of worship as in the comforting 'Hide away', ' Secret Place', and 'You are'. 'Heart's delight' too is a beautifully sensitive piece, sounding slightly similar to a
Glenn Kaiser acoustic worship-tune. Jan Finnochio provides the warmth of her harmony vocals to this and numerous other tracks, while their two sons, Nathan and Gabriel also appear on the credit listing. 'Time' has an edgy
contemporary feel, showing the diversity of this man's talent and bringing this album to a 'timely' close. "Fresh Anointing" is an unpretentious yet mature recording, and one well worth looking out for.
