The term 'oasis of thirst' may sound like a contradiction in terms, but Debbie Fortnum knows that 'our satisfaction in Him
makes us even more thirsty for Him. In other words, our thirst begets the oasis, but the oasis begets more thirst'. Truly, the deep peace and inexpressible joy of being alive in Christ ring loud and clear from this
formidable debut, as does also the singer's insatiable panting after God, her obvious longing for more of Him.
Hailing from Saskatchewan, Canada - and a great (x4) granddaughter of South African author,
pastor and revival preacher Dr. Andrew Murray - Debbie began singing, song-writing and playing piano shortly after receiving Jesus in 1975, at the tender age of five! Over the years she has sung and led worship at
countless public functions - her favourite occasion being weddings (she has performed at over 100!). Finally, in 1999, she travelled to Nashville to record this prized collection of self-penned songs, under the
production eye of CCM veteran Dick Tunney, who along with wife Melodie (co-founder of First Call) also provides musical support throughout the album.
Ex-First Call vocalist Marty McCall and woodwind expert
Sam Levine make further contribution, and the result is a gorgeously sensitive offering of celebratory pop and inspirational worship gems, comparable perhaps to the seasoned style of Twila Paris. Debbie's mature, clear
voice, her passionate expression, and the adorational profundity of the Scripture-based lyrics all combine to produce a varied experience of genuine beauty and spiritual depth. You're sure to return to this Oasis again
and again - as you search out the immeasurable riches of our loving Father, and bask in the warmth of His wonderful presence.
