"Heavenbound"
It holds, of course, that, being committed Christians, the members of UK pop/rock group Phatfish are 'Heavenbound'. But in a very real sense it's true also of
their dedicated music. For despite their wonderfully creative and contemporary style, this output is essentially a worship album, with music and lyrics offered directly to His throne, and proclaiming constantly His love,
faithfulness and utter worthiness.
Right from the start these powerful anthems ring with edgy innovation and musical competence. Lead singer Louise Fellingham's versatile tones are everywhere impressive, and often
stunning; as she soars to the heights on tunes like 'Your love' and 'Castaway', on which she triumphantly declares that 'held on the wind of grace....I will rise on eagles wings'. 'I'll wait for you'
movingly relates the message of the prodigal son/daughter, while 'The cross' is a beautifully tender moment whereby the group poignantly reflects on the truth of Calvary. Perhaps the most passionate and worshipful track
of all is saved 'til last; the steady-paced 'There is a day' lifts into a stirring, exalting chorus as the band focuses eagerly on the day when 'We will meet Him in the air'.
New songs all, each member
of the 5-strong band share in the song-writing, while backing vocals include (unusually) non other than ex-Culture Club frontman Boy George! With not a dull moment to be found on this entire 50-minute set, "Heavenbound" has got to be Phatfish's strongest album to date. The future for this group of
worshippers is very promising. Ours is too, as we keep our journey purely 'heavenbound'.
