"Offerings
"
From the mid-nineties onwards, Third Day have been one of America's most popular Christian rock bands, their blasting
CD-triumphs "Conspiracy No.5" and the more recent "Time" accruing great acclaim. With ever a heart to praise and glorify the King of Kings, "Offerings" is the band's first, long awaited, worship venture, partly recorded live in concert, with a
few studio tracks 'created in this same spirit'.
Material is drawn from various, mainly Third Day, sources. Several tracks are
picked from the band's previous albums, including the drama of '95's 'Thief', while 'You're everywhere' was written for "Conspiracy" but never completed at that time. New songs include the anthemic
'King of Glory' featuring powerful backing from a Mass Choir; in contrast to the reflective 'All the heaven's', a modern hymn which seeks to tap into the tradition of Charles Wesley. Non-original material appears in the
stunning 'Agnes Dei' which first appeared on Michael W. Smith's "Exodus" project, and the pleasantly captivating 'These thousand hills', written a decade ago by fellow Atlanta band Jacob's Trouble.
Ultimately it's the strength of Mac Powell's deep, majestic vocals, and the genuinely stirring worship flow created that makes this album truly stand out. With a bonus acoustic track and standout lyrics 'I've never
climbed the highest mountain / But I walked the hill of Calvary' - it's pretty clear that Third Day's "Offerings" is no run-of-the-mill worship disc. I love it!
