RISE UP EUROPE
Revival Worship Event 2000 Vol. 2
from
Asaph Music - recorded live in Germany
by various artists including:
Brian Doerksen, Andy Park
Peter Helms, Lilo Keller
Mike Chance, Tengerin Doo

Volume 2 of the songs recorded at the great worship event that took place in Germany at the turn of the century. Over 8,700 worshippers gathered for this 72 hour nonstop worship event. The first volume from this event (below) is a good one, but the 1st CD of this second volume out does it. The anointing is all over it, especially track 3 “No Other Gods”, and #8 “Ich Gehore Dir”. The second CD contains dramatic readings with music in the background, a nine minute section of prayers and then back into praise & worship songs. The 20 minute opening dramatic reading alternates between English and German, while the second one is entirely in German. The prayer section is also in German. Overall, we would put the 1st CD of Vol. 2 at the top, the 2 CDs from ‘God is Love’ next, and the dramatic reading CD from Vol. 2 as our least favorite of the four. Read “Rise Up” review by tom lennie below.

CD1
  1.  Your Name is Holy (Stephanie Heinen and Brian Doerksen)
  2.  Who is Like Our God (Andy Park)

A great praise & worship CD that was recorded in Germany. Most of the songs are in English, with a few in German.
From the cover insert:  Thousands worshipped together by Walter Heidenreich
I was extremely moved and privileged to open the Revival Worship Event 2000 on December 29th, 1999 at the Europahalle in Karlsruhe, Germany. This historic gathering, celebrating the turn of a millenium and the Lordship of our King Jesus Christ brought together some 8,700 people from more than 36 nations, covering all 5 continents! The vision was - thousands worshipping Jesus in spirit and in truth for 72 hours non-stop day and night! This is the first time an event of this kind has been done in Germany, and it was amazing to see the unity of the body of Christ. 14 international bands along with an international leadership team joined together to stage this unique worship event which embodied an incredible sense of variety and unity.

This is just a part of what Walter wrote about this great event.

"Rise Up Europe - Revival Worship Event 2000"

'Rise Up above all your earthly cares and dare to come into my arms
I will exercise my covering over you and be your all...
Rise Up and stand in your calling...
And the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout all the earth
Looking for those whose hearts are fully his'

This was the challenging 'prophetic call' given to 9,000 worshippers attending the Revival Worship 2000 event as the Millennium changed hands. The music accompanying this memorable occasion fittingly assists this unction, as six accomplished bands (four German/Swiss, 2 Canadian - over 50 musicians in total) are brought together (on disc1) to ensure a truly international worship expression. The result is a rousing blend of passionate praise and worship which never lets up till a full 72 minutes are clocked up.
Much of the material was written by veteran musicians Brian Doerksen and Andy Park, both also lending lead vocals (occasionally on each others songs). Thus the immensely worshipful 'No other gods', 'One thing I ask' and 'Blessed be the Name of the Lord' classics, dating from 1989 to '96. More recent tunes are taken from those Vineyard UK releases, including 'Hungry (Falling on my knees)', here sung in German by Stephanie Heinen, while Norm Strauss' infectious 'Let Your Glory fall upon us' is also given striking treatment. Effective too is Mike Chance's German translation of Hillsongs'
'I belong to You', and Peter Helm's 'Lord have mercy', a delicate piece with superb violin guiding from the tune's composer Tijmen Wehlburg.
Disc2 consists of several extended 'Dramatic readings' (one lasts 20 minutes!) and prayers, mainly expressed in German, with a touch of musical backing. Brian Doerksen's compelling 'Faithful Father', though, is worth waiting for - this followed by Recabite's version of Martin Smith's 'I could sing of Your Love forever'.
Along with the first 2xCD installment "God Is Love", this unique recording will be of obvious interest to those, of whatever nationality, who made it to this historic meeting. English translations of German songs are not provided however, which is a pity (though some may know them already), but in fact these only account for around one quarter of the total music.
With fine mixing/co-production by Philip Janz (who did much work on both of Langley Vineyard's "Well" projects), this stirring performance makes for an edifying and envisioning experience. "Rise Up" delivers.

KISS THE RIVER
by Paul Oakley
from Soul Survivor Records - U.K.

Paul Oakley - lead vocals, electric and acoustic guitar
Martin Cooper - electric and acoustic guitar and vocals
Mark Prentice - bass guitar and vocals
Matt Leach - drums, percussion and vocals

The majority of the songs on this album are upbeat and loud, but not the type of loud that is annoying. All songs are written by Paul Oakley and Martin Cooper. It starts out with a few familiar songs and doesn’t slow down until it reaches the title track at song 6. Along with “Kiss the River”, other favorites of ours were track #9 “Cover Me” and the final song “In the Stillness”. GoldUSA thinks this is Paul’s best CD to-date, but not all listeners may agree. "Kiss The River"

Rock worship with attitude - Paul's third solo release resounds with passion and punch from start to finish. Undoubtedly 'louder' than his excellent "When Deep Calls To Deep" from two years back, and with a completely new band line-up, this 12-song collection comes with a gutsy, guitar-driven verve that allows the raw energy of this musician to blaze through. Indeed the 'sole' instruments to back Paul's vocals are electric, acoustic and bass guitar, along with drums, percussion and 'gang' vocals from band members!
Containing mainly new tunes composed by the man himself (with a few co-written by Martin Cooper), the set in fact opens with Paul's '98 'classic' - 'Jesus, Friend of Sinners', already highly popular in churches and at worship events all over town. His exuberant affection for the Lord rocks on unabated till 'Kiss the River' (with it's theologically dubious title!) - which gives the album it's name as well as it's effectively simple sleeve-design. This ambient ballad is a moving testimony to God's boundless 'streams' of grace, though also deeply rooted in 'Toronto' terminology (Paul has been a regular guest worship leader at the TACF over the years, and his '96 'River of God' was recorded there for his last output). 'In the
Shadow....' too is a refreshingly delicate piece of reflective worship, as is 'One Thing' (the first half!). But high energy shows again with the 8-minute 'In this Stillness' (though initially moody and intimate, it rises to a stirring anthem-chorus) and 'Cover Me', both D?-like in their swirling guitar drive.
Recorded/mixed in England/Nashville respectively, the project was mastered at the famous London Abbey Road Studios, and produced by Alan Shacklock, known for his work with Phil Keaggy and The Alarm. "Kiss The River" is a
one-hour musical powerhouse - sure to open appeal (if there isn't such already) to enthusiasts of Jim Stern, Sonic Flood and those other Brit-rock worship-purveyors - Delirious?.

Of the CDs from the major live worship conferences in the U.K., the albums from the Grapevine Conference have always been some of our favorites. The CD from the 2000 gathering titled “One Voice” contains songs from around the world and at least 5 songs written in 2000 and new to us. It opens with a great upbeat song by Dave Middleton. Track #3 is one of the best renditions of Brian Doerksen’s song “Your name is Holy”. Trish Morgan follows with her new song “Let every tongue confess”. Matt Redman’s song “Thank you for the blood” sounds great. “In the throne room” is a reading from “The Message” with music in the background which goes right into “Salvation belongs to our God”, then followed by “Before the throne of God” - a great triple treat. Special guest Godfrey Birtill comes in at song #13 with the powerful song “Outrageous grace” -
     “Oh outrageous grace!...Oh outrageous grace!
      Love unfurled by heaven’s hand
      Oh outrageous grace!...Oh outrageous grace!
Through my Jesus I can stand”
Mr. Birtill closes the CD out with “I come to these islands”.
“Yes your life will shine out in the darkness
and the darkness becomes bright as day
And you will ride this earth’s highest mountains
And all your words will be to My praise.”

This is an outstanding CD!
If we ever find the time to redo our Top 10, this CD will find a spot!

"One Voice"

'Diversity in the midst of unity' - that is the heart of this 77-minute(!) worship celebration from Lincolnshire, England. Several familiar Grapevine musicians appear - Chris Bowater, Trish Morgan and Dave Middleton (no Johnny Markin this time round) - as well as a few lesser known worship leaders (e.g. Paul Simpson-Parry and Howard Williams). This, along with guest-vocal contributions from Sheffield-based Godfrey Birtill, ensures a fascinating flow of worship styles and sounds.
Diversity in the origin of songs too - three stem from recent Vineyard UK releases (including the stilling 8-min 'Be the centre'), two from the fresh pen of Matt Redman; and Chris Bowater, instead of choosing from his own extensive repertoire, here unusually performs a couple from the Hillsong stable - the second of these being the deeply worshipful, piano-based 'Eagles wings'. Trish Morgan, on the other hand, lets loose on her new and typically bouncy 'Let every tongue confess', while Dave Middleton also gives vent to two of his vibrant compositions - the latter a Noel Richards-style
song invoking God to come in power. Towards the close come Godfrey Birtill's stirring pieces - his unusual, lyrically profound 'Outrageous Grace' and 'I come to these islands', a 'prophetic' song of healing for the United Kingdom.
With good musicianship throughout, including tones from trumpet, trombone, clarinet and sax, and fine production from Chris' son Daniel Bowater, "One Voice" is another impressive harvest from a growing and productive vineyard.
