To unleash the unrestrained voice of a new generation of radical young worship musicians is the motive behind this state-of-the-art production from Prophetik, a recently formed group of activists, artists and writers dedicated to promoting spiritual enrichment and exploration through clothing, music, poetry and other 'media' forms. The desire of the group is not to focus on particular members, but on 'a fascinating Person who changed our lives forever'.

Certainly a radical, untamed edge runs right through these 'experiential worship' sounds, sparked by the infectious thrust of Heather Clark's 'Price of love' (her striking vocals also attending the gentler 'Pearl', both songs being plucked straight from her ambitious Way Gone Place project). More gripping still are two stunning deliveries from Todd Ganovski (and band), a young worship leader from Mike Bickle's Kansas based ministry, who's full, passionate sound carries definite U2 sensibilities; and the urgency of Jason Upton's declarations, the latter of which is an intense spontaneous piece in line with the 'prophetic' style captured on his recent Faith album.

The live 7-min track from Texas-based Pocket Full of Rocks builds gradually in atmosphere to a bold, unashamed cry of spiritual desperation, which intensity continues on the rich gospel tones emitted by youth choir leader and music teacher Joey's gorgeously soulful voice. With a recording career going back over ten years, Joann McFatter is a surprise contributor to this youthful venture, though her own ethereal and sensitive 'Sapphire sea' finds welcome place. However, the spoken 'prophetic' unction of pastor Lou Engle is a touch cringeable and hardly suited to this disc, while, overlying a moving musical background, an additional 'word' from Stacey Campbell fares better.

It's perhaps rather ironic that, although the original aim was to feature nameless, faceless worshippers, because of the obvious talent squeezed into
Fascination, increased attention is bound to be drawn to these same artists (indeed, since the project was conceived, one or two names have already signed to promising record contracts). Such attention is inevitable for this 66-minute volume is a true box of delights! But in keeping with the noble policy of Prophetik (who will also be donating a % of album profits to organisations aiding the helpless, homeless and victimised around the world), may our Fascination be more with Him who reigns on high than the albeit wonderful gifts he bestows on His children.
